Spelling Bee buzz at Athol-South Marysburgh Public School and Prince Charles School
The gymnasium at Prince Charles School Belleville was buzzing with excitement on April 5, 2024 for the annual Spelling Bee. The competition was for students in grade 4-6. Although many admitted they were nervous to speak in front of their audience of students, teachers and families, they all bravely spoke into the microphone and showed off their spelling skills. Principal Paul Longhurst was the pronouncer with teachers Gillian Raymond and Amanda Gray as the recorders. Congratulations to the winners Abay Thapa who came in first place, Penny Gannon in second and Fisher Graham in third.
On the same day at the same time, Athol-South Marysburgh was hosting their inaugural Spelling Bee for junior and intermediate students. Andrew White, teacher, was the pronouncer, Trustee Stacey Lewis and Krista Overberg (teacher) were the recorders, with Whitney Shantz from the School Council as the judge. A member of the Rotary club was there to act as an arbitrator and referee for any disputes. In the junior division Orson Larter placed first and Rhys Kelly placed second. In the intermediate division, Emma Colby spelled her way to victory, with Kayden Bowman and Ben Clegg coming in second and third place respectively.
Congratulations to all participants.
