Special Education Programs

HPEDSB believes that all students can achieve success. For this purpose, students are provided with enabling, inclusive, and dynamic educational experiences in the least restrictive learning environment possible.

Based on the Continuous Assessment Process, we believe that early intervention, proactive program planning and ongoing support are essential to maximize student achievement. A wide variety of interventions and accommodations are implemented within the regular class program as appropriate to support student needs. In specific circumstances, a system referral for a placement outside the regular classroom may be considered based on specific criteria to meet the programming needs of some exceptional learners with highly complex needs.

Secondary ECPP

St. Leonard's Home Day Treatment/Residential ECPP

This Education and Community Partnership Program (ECPP) provides residential services for male students from Grade 7 to 12, who are placed by the courts. Students follow conditions as set by the courts (e.g., anger management classes, counselling) and work towards academic achievement. Students do not have a specific profile as they are placed in this facility by the courts. Services have been expanded to include a day-treatment program for students who have recently been discharged from St. Leonard’s Home, but are still on probation. This expanded service will assist students in transitioning out of custody to school and/or community.
