November 22, 2023—A re-elected Chair and new Vice-chair of the Board are in place for for Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
At its inaugural meeting on November 20, 2023, the Board of Trustees re-elected Shannon Binder as Chair of the Board and elected Amanda Robertson as Vice-chair of the Board.
Binder drew on her recent leadership experiences when expressing interest in the chair role.
"Having overcome a number of challenges within our first year together, we have agreed as a collective on a strong governance path forward. We make decisions on behalf of all students and all schools, and there may be further challenges ahead. Should it be the will of the Board, I am prepared to lead our team through them with honesty and efficiency, addressing hard decisions head on,” said Binder.
Binder first joined the Board in 2018 and was acclaimed as Trustee for Southeast Hastings in the 2022 Municipal Election. She has served as Chair for three previous years and Vice-chair for one, and has sat on various committees
Robertson expressed a willingness to work with Chair Binder to help guide the Board through the upcoming strategic planning process and help facilitate the contributions of all voices around the table.
"Over the past year I've developed strong working relationships with many of you through my work on committees and at the Board table. I've developed efficiency and effectiveness skills, and an ability to resolve conflict and problem solve. My experience as an OPSBA director has provided big picture strategic thinking, as well as meaningful and valuable trustee and education system connections," said Robertson.

Robertson was first elected in the October 2022 Municipal Election and has served on various committees, including Chair of the Audit Committee.
Binder and Robertson began their duties immediately and will serve through to the fall of 2024. In addition to Binder and Robertson, other Board members are Erica Charlton, Kandis Hambly, Kari Kramp, Stacey Lewis, Sandy Maracle, Ernie Parsons, Rachael Prinzen and Ron Speck.
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board serves approximately 15,400 students each day at 39 schools (32 elementary, two K-12, four 7-12 and one secondary). Supporting student achievement is the goal of approximately 1,800 teaching and support staff who, in addition to the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners, share their passion for teaching and learning. The district covers a wide geographic area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south and Quinte West to the west.
