On the heels of a departing senior staff member, Tina Jones has been announced as Superintendent of Education at Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.

Bringing over 24 years of educational experience with HPEDSB, Jones has been at the heart of school communities serving as a system lead, school administrator and teacher. Her commitment to a student-centred approach has been a cornerstone of her actions and decisions, always prioritizing student learning and achievement.

“Tina has demonstrated her commitment to excellence and support for students, families and Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board over her career. She leads by building meaningful relationships,  connecting and strengthening the crucial link between home and school. Tina is a dedicated and caring educator who will be an asset to the executive team and to supporting schools,” said Katherine MacIver, Director of Education.

Jones’ professional journey through both the secondary and elementary settings, combined with her strategic vision developed through central office and provincial experiences, uniquely position her for this leadership role. She has a proven track record of fostering innovation and collaboration, notably through her work in co-developing a new department focused on growing student pathways to graduation. This work, aligned with the strategic plan, leverages instructional supports, student success strategies and community partnerships to achieve positive outcomes.

“As a proud graduate of HPEDSB, I’m looking forward to serving the families, students and staff through this leadership role. I’m excited about the district’s commitment to creating inspiring learning environments where all feel seen, heard and welcomed in our K-12 schools. Authentic partnerships in education between school, community and home are the foundation of our future. By focusing on students’ interests and strengths, building strong relationships and nurturing well-being, we can ignite learning and set our students on a journey as life-long learners,” said Tina Jones, incoming Superintendent of Education.

In every aspect of her work, Jones has cultivated an environment of inclusivity and open communication, making her a trusted leader among staff, students and families alike. Her approachability and dedication to school communities has been instrumental in upholding the HPEDSB commitment to service and effective communication.

As Superintendent, Jones will oversee the Eastside and North Hastings school groups, and lead Innovation and Inclusion Services with portfolios including Equity, Innovation, Indigenous Education and Safe Schools, starting February 20, 2024.

Ms. Jones replaces Kristen Niemi, who began a new career with Renfrew County District School Board as Director of Education earlier this year.
