Students at North Hastings High School are energized after their school received $20,000 towards a trip to New York City.
Brightspark Canada presented the cheque as part of an early booking initiative from Brightspark, which ran from April to June 2012. Over 300 schools entered the contest. North Hastings High School was selected as the winner by random draw in late February.
"For many years now, several junior enrichment programs at Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board high schools have organized their annual educational travel with Brightspark. Thanks to them, hundreds of our students have benefitted from these outstanding learning opportunities," said Ken Dostaler, principal of North Hastings. "I'm so pleased that our school has won this trip contest."
"There was a moment of shock when we announced that they had won the contest, then the room erupted with excitement," said Linda Philp, managing director of Brightspark Canada. "We're thrilled to be able to make the travel experience more accessible for the students in this community."
The 42 North Hastings students travel to New York City during the first week in May.
