Update on the new Stirling and Tweed schools, August 13, 2013
Posted on 08/13/2013

Posted August 13, 2013: Construction is on-schedule at the new elementary schools in Stirling and Tweed. Our intention is for all students to be in school on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. If there is need for other plans, we will communicate with families and through the local media.

It is exciting to see each school become closer to reality each day. Senior staff from the Education Centre have been monitoring progress daily over the past few weeks and will continue to do so.

Both schools will be big enough to accommodate the projected enrolment in each community. There are no plans to put portables on either site. The new Stirling school will combine approximately 700 elementary students from the former three Stirling schools. The new Tweed school will combine approximately 375 elementary students from the former two Tweed schools. Both projects are fully-funded by the Ministry of Education, with approximately $12 million for Stirling and $7 million for Tweed.

Stirling Public School
Interior work in the new school is progressing well. Most ceilings are in place and floors are complete. Mechanical and electrical work is continuing. Exterior brick work has started and will be completed in the next few weeks. Site work, such as parking lot construction and re-grading, is continuing. Demolition of the former Stirling Senior Public School is almost finished, as can be seen in the photo.

Tweed Elementary School
Site work is proceeding well with concrete curbs now in place. Re-grading work is continuing. Interior finishes are progressing, with most ceilings and floors in place. The gym floor was installed last week. Mechanical and electrical work is proceeding according to schedule. Equipment start ups should occur this week. Demolition of the former Tweed-Hungerford Senior Public School has started after a short delay due to extensive asbestos removal work.

Posted July 3, 2013: We are very excited about the new elementary schools being built in Stirling and Tweed! They will provide new, modern learning environments for our students. Starting this week, updates will be posted as construction progresses.

Construction is on schedule in both Stirling and Tweed. As part of the construction plan, the existing Stirling Senior Public School and Tweed-Hungerford Senior Public School will be taken down in July. This needs to be done so the contractor can work on underground drainage and site development for school yards, parking and landscaping.

In Stirling, before and after school child care will continue to be provided by current provider, Stirling Co-operative Nursery School.
