Today the Ministry of Education announced funding to build a new public elementary school in Trenton.
This announcement is in response to a capital priority business case submitted to the Ministry of Education in the fall of 2013. That submission came about through an accommodation review which took place during the 2012-2013 school year with school, parent, student and community involvement.
Trustee for the area, Sam Clements, has been committed to this project from the beginning and is pleased to see the Ministry of Education supporting our efforts to connect with our communities through new school builds.
Chair of the Board, Dwayne Inch, echoes those comments, stating, "This investment in our Board is very welcome news. It supports our multi-year plan to consolidate and renew our schools to ensure our students have modern, safe learning environments."
The new school will be built on the existing site of Queen Elizabeth Public School, and accommodate students in JK to Grade 8 from Breadner Elementary School, College Street Public School and Queen Elizabeth Public School.
"Our government is supporting the construction of safe, modern facilities that meet the needs of students and school staff in Trenton. When we help our local school boards improve and expand their infrastructure, we're helping teachers and support staff focus on what matters most-student growth and success," said The Honourable Jeff Leal, Minister of Rural Affairs.
Funding for the project is estimated at $13.3 million. These details are yet to be confirmed by the Ministry of Education.
"We are thrilled with this announcement and appreciate the Ministry of Education's continued commitment to renewing infrastructure in Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. We are looking forward to the project beginning in the coming weeks," said Mandy Savery-Whiteway, Director of Education.
Additional details will be shared as plans come together.
