Arts Program information
For more than 15 years, Centennial Secondary School has been the home of the Regional Centre for the Visual and Performing Arts. Eligible students who wish to participate in the specialized Arts Program take foundation courses in Drama, Music and Visual Art in Grade 9. Music Specialists (Vocal, Instrumental, or Guitar) will enrol in Integrated Arts in addition to their music, but are not required to take all three disciplines. There are also entry points for students in Grade 10, 11 and 12.
Arts Program application process
- Typically students make application to the program during their Grade 8 year. The application process includes an interview with subject-specific staff, an audition or presentation of a portfolio, and a referral statement from their home elementary school.
- While in the program, students must maintain an average of 70% in their major subject to continue in the program.
- After pursuing three areas in the Arts in Grade 9, students in Grades 10 through 12 receive specialized Arts programs, alongside their other compulsory and elective courses.
- Students are well prepared to enter any major post-secondary program.
