Message from Mandy Savery-Whiteway, Director of Education, in recognition of National Day of Mourning.
Across Canada, National Day of Mourning is recognized annually on April 28. It is a time to commemorate workers who have been injured or whose lives have been lost through traumatic workplace incidents.
According to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, National Day of Mourning was first officially recognized by the federal government in 1991. The Day of Mourning has since spread to other countries. It is hoped that the annual observance of this day will strengthen the resolve to establish safe conditions in the workplace for all. It is as much a day to remember the dead as it is a call to protect the living.

In recognition of this day, flags at all Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board sites will be flown at half-mast on Monday, April 28, 2014.
