TIME: 11:30 a.m.
LOCATION: Belleville Fairgrounds
It's all about being active and having fun. That's the purpose of Celebration of Dance. The 24th annual event is less than one week away. If you have never seen it, try to get there. You will see thousands of students dancing in unison, dressed in their school colours and having fun!
Ten dances are in the line-up this year:
- Dynamite
- Cotton-Eyed Joe
- Follow the Leader (new for this year, submitted by Tweed Elementary School)
- Crazy Frog
- Hamster Dance
- Treasure (new for this year, submitted by Athol-South Marysburgh Public School)
- Move It
- YMCA
- Cha Cha
- Happy (new for this year, submitted by Susanna Moodie Elementary School)
Students and teachers have been practising for several weeks. They learn the dances by watching videos.
Leadership students from Centennial Secondary School will be on-site to capture the moments and tweet them through the hashtag #hpecod. Volunteers from the Education Centre will also be there to help with pedestrian traffic, security, being stage hosts and generally getting people and participants to where they need to be.
The first Celebration of Dance took place in spring 1991 and has been an annual event since then. It is a fun and safe way to engage students in daily physical activity while supporting the physical education, and drama and dance curriculum.
Thank you to all volunteers, in particular Cogeco Belleville for the support in capturing the event on video. It will be available to watch on Cablevue 4.
