Message from Mandy Savery-Whiteway, Director of Education
Welcome to the first day of school! Today we welcome approximately 15,200 students into our schools. It is an exciting time for our students and their families, as well as for the 1,800 employees who support student learning.
As a school district, our purpose is to provide the best possible programs and services to help each student to reach their full potential. This is important and meaningful work and it is a privilege to serve the families of our communities. Both our school teams and central teams are made up of dedicated and caring professionals. We provide welcoming environments for our students to help them learn and grow, and we do make a difference.
This year we will continue to use the AiM-Achievement in Motion for Student Success System Plan to focus on three key goals:
- Success for Each Student
- Employee Excellence
- Community Connections
We also continue to promote the eight Growing with Character attributes: caring, cooperation, honesty, humour, integrity, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness as the foundation for our work. Our focus on character development is valued by our both our schools and our community. This year, we will focus on student achievement and well-being, and will work to close the gap for those students who may require academic, social or emotional supports.
Our schools are in excellent shape and I want to express my sincere appreciation to all who have been involved in making this happen. From Facility Services to Information and Technology Services to members of school teams, hundreds of individuals have had a role in getting our schools in top shape for back to school.
All the best for the coming year!
Mandy Savery-Whiteway
