Today the Ministry of Education announced funding for new and improved schools in Belleville and Madoc.
This announcement is in response to capital priority business cases submitted to the Ministry of Education last fall. Those submission came about through accommodation reviews which were approved in June 2017.
"These investments in our schools are welcome news. They support the priorities in our strategic plan and contribute to us creating dynamic, inclusive educational experiences that develop capable, confident, curious learners who thrive and contribute to their communities,"said Lucille Kyle, Chair of the Board.
Specifically, HPEDSB will receive the following:
- $16.8 million for an addition to Meyers Creek Secondary School (currently Moira Secondary School)
- $10.5 million for a new K-8 school to consolidate Queen Elizabeth School (Belleville) and Queen Victoria School on the Queen Elizabeth site
- $5.8 million for an addition at Centre Hastings Secondary School to consolidate it with Madoc Public School as a K-12 school
"We are thrilled with this announcement and appreciate the Ministry of Education's continued commitment to renewing infrastructure in Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. We are looking forward to working through the project details in the coming months,"said Mandy Savery-Whiteway, Director of Education.
Additional details will be shared as plans come together.
