World Down Syndrome Day is recognized around the world on March 21 each year. As employees, learners and leaders in Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board we strive to create welcoming, inclusive, safe and accepting learning environments as described in the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan: Possibilities Today & Tomorrow. We work together to create dynamic inclusive educational experiences and deliver positive social and emotional learning experiences.
World Down Syndrome has been observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date is significant as the 21 day of the 3 month was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21 chromosome which causes Down Syndrome Source: World Down Syndrome Day website. World Down Syndrome Day is a time to raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.
