Each month, school newsletters include a one-page insert called Home-School Connections. It describes ways in which families can enhance student learning at home in the areas of literacy; numeracy; healthy, caring schools and improving student learning.
This month's Home-School Connections (pdf file) features:
- Physical: School-aged children should aim to achieve high levels of physical activity. The 24 Hour Movement &Activity Guidelines outlines goals and tips for educators and parents. A minimum of 20 minutes of Daily Physical Activity (DPA) is just one way that HPEDSB supports student's physical wellness goals.
- Cognitive: Students who have strong relationships and a positive sense of self are in a better position to reach their full potential. Every School Day Counts! Regular attendance supports academic achievement, a positive sense of self and belonging and the overall well-being for all our learners.
- Emotional: mytoolkit.ca is an interactive resource to help educate youth about their mental wellness. It offers mobile apps, videos, and educational modules, giving families tools to talk about mental health, stress, and wellness.
- Social: A sense of belonging is an important part of social wellness. The HPEDSB "Say and Do Nice Things"campaign, is a simple way to show care to others through welcoming behaviours. @SayDoNiceThings #SayDoNiceThings #CaringCounts. In addition to kind words and caring actions, a sense of self and healthy relationships and consent are a key part of well-being.
