Secondary students connect at Spring Student Voice Symposium
Posted on 04/17/2026
Student leaders from across the district gathered on April 15, 2026, for the Spring Student Voice Symposium. The event provided secondary students with an opportunity to network, reflect on the current school year and discuss goals for the year ahead.
The day featured guest speaker and former student trustee Kiydan Zachariah, who shared how their experience as a student trustee helped build leadership skills used in their career today. Kiydan spoke about navigating change, noting that "failure" can often be an opportunity for growth and that career paths often take unexpected turns.
Vicky Struthers and Ashlyn Elmy from The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation also attended. They provided an overview of the various programs and supports the Foundation offers to help students succeed throughout the school year.
The symposium included elections for a new student trustee to fill the upcoming vacancy left by Thomas Rice, who will graduate this June. Three candidates ran for the position, and all of them are to be commended for their interest in representing the student voice on the Board of Trustees.
The successful candidate will be officially announced at an upcoming Board Meeting.
Congratulations to the student trustees who organized the symposium: Audrey Maracle, Maria Nash and Thomas Rice.
