Each month, school newsletters include a one-page insert called Home-School Connections. It describes ways in which families can enhance student learning at home in the areas of literacy; numeracy; healthy, caring schools and improving student learning.
This month's Home-School Connections (pdf file) features:
- Literacy: Reading allows students to learn about fiction and nonfiction stories, life lessons as well as history. Books are geared towards specific grades level and age ranges. Literate learners use skills of thinking, expressing and reflecting to listen, speak, read and write.
- Numeracy: Check out "Math Before Bed" on Twitter for daily prompts to discuss with your child before going to sleep. @MathBeforeBed
- Healthy, Caring Schools: Parachute Safe Kids Week, June 5-11, 2017. #everydaysuperhero
- Improving Student Learning: Spending time in nature helps boost:
- Performance in reading, writing, math, science and social studies
- Creativity, critical thinking and problem solving
- Ability to focus and pay attention
- Enthusiasm for learning
- Engagement and cooperation
- Impulse control and self regulation
