Students at four schools will benefit from bursaries from the Quinte Arts Council.
At Stirling Primary School, students in Grade 2 will work with watercolour artist Marg McIntyre to experiment with small paintings to practice techniques. They will then paint one large piece to be framed and taken home as a gift on Family Day.
At York River Public School in Bancroft, students in Grade 5 and 6 will work with the Art Gallery of Bancroft and Kevin Hockley. He will teach them how scientists and sculptors cast molds from animal and fossil forms. They will then create a life-sized replica of an otter, the school mascot, which will be displayed at the school.
At Centennial Secondary School in Belleville, students in Grade 9 and 10 will work with potter Perry Poupore. He will teach them slab and wheel techniques, and glazing. They will then complete pieces to be fired.
At Sophiasburgh Central School, students in Grade 3, 4 and 5 will experience arts enrichment programs provided by the Milkweek Collective.
The Quinte Arts Council bursaries were funded through the John M. and Bernice Parrott Foundation, and the Marilyn and Maurice Rollins Foundation.
