Our response to the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy

We are all deeply saddened by the tragic events in Connecticut on Friday. Our hearts go out to the many victims and their families. As educators who have dedicated our lives to the well-being, safety and the emotional and academic development of children, the magnitude of such a loss is certainly difficult to put into words. We can all empathize with the anguish the community of Newtown must be going through and our thoughts are with the families and the community at this time.

We anticipate that some of our students and staff will be impacted by this tragedy. In the days to come our schools will provide counselling resources to students, staff and families as needed.

As an expression of support and respect, I have asked that all Hastings and Prince Edward schools and administrative offices lower flags to half mast. We continue to work with our many community partners to keep our schools safe and welcoming learning environments and appreciate your ongoing support.
