Moira SS students honoured cancer survivors, did Relay for Life
Students at Moira Secondary School demonstrated responsibility, cooperation and caring during a recent school-wide event.
On Friday, May 20, 2011, students from Moira Secondary School were joined by Harry J. Clarke Public School students in the fight against cancer. The Relay for Life event started at noon with a powerfully emotional opening ceremony attended by the entire school community. Survivors, who had been invited for lunch, were honoured during this ceremony and thanked the school for their support of such an important cause.
Students then "relayed" around the school track until midnight, closing the event with a heartfelt salute during the “survivor lap.” At dusk, luminaries spelled the word HOPE on the bleachers and students participated in a lap of silence.
To date, over $20,000 has been raised at Moira Secondary School to support cancer research and it is anticipated that this number will rise.
Once again, Trojan Pride brightly shone through!
