Connor Emdin, who graduated from Moira Secondary School in June 2009, was recently named as one of 11 Canadian university students to receive a Rhodes Scholarship. This highly distinctive award is presented to post-graduate students to further their education at the University of Oxford in England.
While at MSS, Emdin studied in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme. He participated in a variety of clubs and activities where his interest in community involvement was most evident.
Rhodes Scholarships  are awarded based on four criteria:
- literary and scholastic attainments;
- energy to use one’s talents to the full;
- truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship; and
- moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.
Emdin was selected based on his intellectual excellence, leadership, character and interest in public service.
