In recognition of National Aboriginal Day

Across Canada, National Aboriginal Day is recognized annually on June 21. It is an occasion for Aboriginal groups to showcase and share their diverse cultural heritage. It is also an opportunity to learn about the traditions and outstanding contributions of Aboriginal peoples across the country.

National Aboriginal Day was first proclaimed in 1996 as an opportunity for all Canadians to learn more about the Aboriginal cultural heritages of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Collectively, these groups make up the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada. The date was selected for several reasons, including the fact that it coincides with the summer solstice and because many Aboriginal groups mark this day as a time to celebrate their heritage.

Through numerous community relationships, we know that Aboriginal families reside within the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board boundaries.

Please join in acknowledging and celebrating National Aboriginal Day today, with students, employees and the community.
