Dozens of community partners and hundreds of students attended today’s celebration, as did several school board officials, the contractor and representatives from the architecture firm.

“This is a day of celebration and anticipation as we watch the progress of building a new school,” said Thelma Goodfellow, Trustee for Southeast Hastings.

Construction is underway on the existing Tweed-Hungerford Senior school site. The fencing is up, machinery is on-site and the foundations are being dug. This school is scheduled to open in September 2013. It will combine approximately 375 elementary students from the two Tweed schools. The $7.3 million project is fully-funded by the Ministry of Education.

According to Director of Education Rob McGall, the new school will provide students with an optimum learning environment.
