Bus Patroller Appreciation Day at the National Air Force Museum of Canada

On Wednesday, June 16, 2010 the National Air Force Museum of Canada hosted 328 students and support staff during the Tri-Board Student Transportation Service, Bus Patroller Appreciation Day.

At the beginning of each school year, students in Grades 6 to 8 are selected as bus patrollers, from Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic School Board, Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, and Limestone District School Board. Selected students are trained to provide monitoring, safety, and driver assistance on most of the boards’ fleet of buses.
At the Bus Patroller Appreciation Day, students and support staff were rewarded for a job well done with a barbeque lunch, and an interactive tour of the museum and airpark. There were eight different information stations that students rotated through, four in the museum and four in the airpark.
“Although challenging, the visit of over 300 students from Eastern Ontario was an excellent opportunity to bring the museum to the attention of the Tri-Board educators and other personnel,” said Curator Dr. Georgiana Stanciu.
“I personally enjoyed preparing this event and very highly appreciate the support from staff and volunteers. This event couldn’t have happened without the wonderful time and effort provided by our amazing group of volunteers,” Museum Executive Director Chris Colton concurred.
Although the museum regularly provides tours to groups both large and small, this event was the first of its kind held at the National Air Force Museum of Canada.
“It just shows that this museum is an excellent educational venue for both elementary and high-school students. We appreciate that Tri-Board selected us for their celebratory day,” said Chris Colton.
