“Ignite the Fire” Indigenous Studies Student Symposium, April 25, 2019

April 23, 2019—Over 300 secondary school students from seven schools will participate in a student symposium about Indigenous Studies.

Thursday, April 25, 2019
TIME: 8:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Loyalist College, Belleville

Keynote speaker Ashley Richard (see below for more information) from Winnipeg, will engage students about becoming changemakers through empowerment.

Ignite the Fire will provide students with a better understanding and sense of empowerment to make positive change as learners and leaders. The goal of this event is to provide a forum for students and educators to learn and discuss:

Students will participate in workshops led by Indigenous presenters from several different Indigenous communities across Canada.

Background on Ashley Richard

Ashley Richard is a proud Indigenous woman who lives to follow in the footsteps of her grandmother, Mary Richard. Ashley is passionate about youth empowerment, especially Indigenous youth. Her personal story of empowerment was featured trice in Macleans magazine [1] and other media publications. Ashley believes that sharing her story is a way to help inspire others. When she is not at community events, Ashley enjoys cooking, reading and taking care of her two Siamese cats, Taco and Armani.
