Mandy Savery-Whiteway selected as new director of education
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has selected Mandy Savery-Whiteway as the new Director of Education. Savery-Whiteway, presently a superintendent of education at HPEDSB, succeeds retiring Director of Education Rob McGall. The appointment is effective July 1, 2013.
“It was a decision supported by all Board members. Mandy is an exemplary leader and outstanding communicator. She brings experience supporting student achievement with the Ministry of Education, and is well-versed in human resources, negotiations and organizational effectiveness. Mandy’s broad range of experiences and collaborative leadership style will be an excellent fit as the new chief executive officer for our school district,” remarked Dwayne Inch, Chair of the Board.
Savery-Whiteway has worked for Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board since 1987, beginning as a classroom teacher at Trenton High, then progressing through roles of increasing responsibility and leadership, including head of Guidance at Centennial Secondary School; vice-principal at Bayside Secondary School; principal at Centennial Secondary School; district lead for Student Success at the Education Centre; education officer at the Ministry of Education; assistant superintendent of education and superintendent of education, currently responsible for human resources, safe schools and the Bayside school group.
As a member of senior administration, Savery-Whiteway has been jointly responsible for setting system direction through the development, implementation and reporting of the multi-year system plan. During her time as a supervisory officer she has collaborated with school leaders to improve student achievement through the development of school improvement plans, been chief negotiator, led safe schools initiatives and implemented workplace safety processes required by provincial legislation.

I believe that Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is a leader in effective instructional practices and leadership development. I look forward to working with employees, parents/guardians, trustees and community partners to help students become caring, contributing decision-makers of our future,” stated Savery-Whiteway.
Savery-Whiteway grew up in Trenton and attended Prince Charles Public School and Trenton High School. Her post-secondary education was at University of Toronto and Charles Sturt University, Australia. She and her husband Jim have two grown children who are both graduates of Bayside Secondary School.
