April 27, 2017—On April 26, students from Centennial Secondary, Moira Secondary and Quinte Secondary, participated in an event hosted at Quinte that explored skills needed to transition from high school into the workforce.
What’s Next?! began with a inspiring presentation by Ryan Porter @lunch_buddy. the founder of Ruutly, an online tool that matches best candidates to posted jobs and the author of Make Your Own Lunch, a book about helping young people find their path to a successful future.
Porter talked about his journey after high school and provided three tips to “Make Your Own Lunch And Love It!”
- Main Ingredients – make good choices that you believe in and stand behind them.
- Your Recommended Daily Intake – see your vision and make sure it is achievable.
- Don’t Skip Lunch – stop procrastinating, the time is now!
Students attended community partner workshops following the presentation. The purpose of the sessions was to let them know about jobs and skills employers are looking for.

- Budgeting basics
- Preparing for interviews
- Tenant rights
- Financial literacy
- Social media presence
- Planning your job search
