Tony Melendez equity and inclusivity presentations engage students

October 16, 2017—The concept of learning to reflect on perspectives about equity and inclusivity are at the core of presentations happening at area schools.

Schools throughout the district are hosting Tony Melendez, an author and musician who was born without arms.

Melendez has learned to play the guitar with his feet. His presentation is about overcoming obstacles and persevering through tough times. His messages are about breaking down stereotypes and stigma for people with disabilities. The presentation has inspirational theme, using music and personal stories to challenge youth to consider their perspectives on equity and inclusivity.

Schools were invited to host presentations on a first-come, first-served basis, with the following hosting  presentations:

Melendez presented to North Hastings High School students during the last school year and was well-received by students and adults alike.
