The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is a committee of a school board that provides important advice on special education.

SEAC is comprised of trustees and representatives of local associations that further the interests and well-being of groups of exceptional children or adults.

SEAC Duties:

SEAC may make recommendations to the Board on any matter affecting the establishment, development and delivery of special education programs and services for exceptional students. Under the the authority of the Board and in accordance with the Education Act, the SEAC may advise the Board in such policy areas of special education as follows:

arrow  delivery model;

arrow  program development;

arrow  identification and assessment of special needs;

arrow  transportation practices;

arrow  interaction with other boards or committees in related areas;

arrow  any other matter in special education as requested by the Board.

Other duties may include:

arrow  participation in the Board's annual review of the Special Education Plan;

arrow  participation in the Board's annual budget process as it relates to special education;

arrow  review of the financial statements of the board as they relate to special education.

Parents:

SEAC is a committee that represents the interests of all children with exceptional needs.  Although specific children and issues are not discussed at SEAC, Board issues affecting services across the school board can be raised for discussion.
