Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has invested in a WiFi infrastructure to support 21st Century skills, such as collaboration and self-directed learning. Access to WiFi allows for greater mobility in the classroom where learning occurs.
Access to a wireless network provides users with several advantages, such as:
-
Accessibility – students, employees and visitors have access to WiFi from anywhere in the school using district or personal devices. This gives users the freedom to use the devices where and when it is appropriate.
-
Flexible teaching and learning – teachers and students who have access to mobile devices and WiFi can accommodate individual learning needs and adapt learning spaces to suit the type of learning at the time it is occurring.
-
Portability – teachers and students have the freedom to move with their devices without being limited by cords or cables in limited locations.
Students use their mobile devices in creative and meaningful ways outside the school day. With WiFi access, students no longer need to “power down” when they come to school. Instead, WiFi at school provides the infrastructure to capitalize on these meaningful uses within school and classroom settings.
WiFi will be installed and operational in all buildings within the district by the end of the 2011-2012 school year. |
