Elementary to secondary transitions

Elementary schools are partnered with a secondary school in their catchment area. Elementary school principals, elementary teachers, parents/guardians and students work collaboratively with the secondary school teams to ensure a smooth transition from elementary to secondary school.

Key dates

December - January - February

Grade 8 students and parents / guardians are invited to welcome and information sessions at secondary school.

Orientation days provide elementary students with the opportunity to become more familiar with students from other schools, teachers and secondary school facilities.

January to March - IPRC (Individual Placement and Review Committee) meetings

Secondary school registration is completed for elementary students.

Parents/guardians of students with Individual Education Plans meet with elementary and secondary staff to determine student placement and required supports.
