Open courses

Open courses are suitable for all students, regardless of their post-secondary destination. Course expectations are suitable for all students.

Alternatives to regular day school

eLearning and virtual schools

HPEDSB is committed to providing access to appropriate programs for all students. An exciting new way to deliver credit courses for students is through eLearning. Students from all secondary schools may register in courses that they cannot access in their home school due to timetable conflicts or course availability. Accepted students logging in to our state-of-the-art e-Learning platform can access course materials and assignments, and communicate with their teacher and 'classmates'.

Course offerings are determined based on what schools are unable to offer in-house and therefore vary from year-to-year. HPEDSB has over 25 courses to choose from with more being developed all the time. Students enjoy the flexibility that eLearning offers.

In addition to curriculum expectations, students learn transferable skills such as time management, personal organization and work and study habits.

Space is limited. Students require the approval of their principal, guidance counsellor and parent/guardian. Interested students should check with their guidance counsellor to find out which courses are available and how to register. More information is available by visiting www.ontariovirtualacademy.ca

Adult Education

The Adult Education program offers a full range of evening courses, correspondence courses, e-Learning and "learn while you earn" opportunites. Adult Education is situated within Quinte Secondary School which gives adult students access to the computer labs, technical areas and school library. For further information contact the Adult Education Coordinator at 613-962-3133 or by e-mail at adult.education@hpedsb.on.ca

Summer School

Summer school is offered each July. Centennial Secondary School is usually the host school. Classes take place Monday to Friday from 8:00 am - 1:45 pm. Transportation is not provided.
