French Immersion is available to students in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.

This program offers students the opportunity to become functionally bilingual in French. The content

is the same as the regular program but the language of instruction is French. The entry point
is at the beginning of September in Grade 4. Students who successfully complete the French Immersion

program to the end of secondary school are eligible to receive the Board French Immersion Certificate.

The connection between home and school

Parents play an important role in a child’s development, learning, and academic progress. In fact,

success in school is strongly influenced by activities in the home that help to spark a child’s
imagination, intellect and self-esteem. To promote a positive experience for your child:

• Read and communicate regularly in the first language of the home
• Have your child read to you in both languages
• Show your commitment to the program
• Volunteer in the classroom
