In September, once your school's Food for Learning registration form is submitted, you will receive confirmation of your funding allotment for that school year. These funds represent a portion of your annual Food for Learning program budget and you can access these funds on a reimbursement basis, using the Reimbursement Form.
These funds are to be used for the sole purpose of purchasing food and supplies for use in your breakfast, mid-morning meal, snack or lunch programs. All food purchased must comply with the Nutrition Guidelines provided by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Any food item that does not meet the nutrition criteria will not be funded by Food for Learning.
These funds cannot be used to purchase food for activites outside of the parameters of your Food for Learning program. If your school is hosting an event/activity for students where you are providing a healthy meal or snack, you can apply for funds by using the Special Funding Request Form.
These funds may be used to purchase the non-food supplies required to offer your programs. For example: dish soap, disposable napkins, baggies. However, these funds cannot be used to purchase any equipment or tools you may require, such as toasters, knives & cutting boards, dishes, towels, etc. Food for Learning will purchase equipment and kitchen tools to maximize a school's ability to offer a quality student nutrition program. To request funds to purchase equipment you must submit an Equipment Request.
