A HEALTHY START FOR HEALTHY MINDS

Food for Learning provides food to over 10,000 local children each school year, in the form of a balanced breakfast, healthy snack or nutritious lunch. Schools within the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board; the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board; Conseil des Ecoles Publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario; and the Quinte Mohawk School are offering student nutrition programs daily.

Food for Learning is a source of administrative, financial
and organizational support for schools offering student nutrition programs. Food for Learning, the education sector and the community at large are working together to meet our goal of providing food to all children who are in need of a supplement to their daily nutritional intake, whether it is one day of the school year or every day.

THANK YOU TO

BREAKFAST CLUBS OF CANADA

Food for Learning has been awarded a grant from Breakfast Clubs of Canada to support breakfast programs in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.  Over a three year period, ten local schools will receive additional support to enhance or initiate a school breakfast program.  We will receive $63,050 for food expenses and $35,000 to purchase required equipment - this is a total of $98,050!

It is Breakfast Clubs of Canada’s dream that all children will have an equal chance to start their school day with a nutritious breakfast in an environment that promotes self-esteem. Breakfast Clubs of Canada accomplishes this work with the help of partners across Canada, all committed to the cause of feeding our children’s future.

We look forward to an on-going partnership with this great organization!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Schools throughout Hastings and Prince

Edward counties need volunteers to help them with their breakfast programs.  Volunteers are needed to shop for groceries, prepare and serve food to children, assist with paper work and so much more!  If you have some time in the mornings and would like to help please contact Kellie Brace (613) 966-1170, ext. 2232.

FEED THE METER 2012

Once again, Food for Learning's Feed the Meter campaign was a great success.  Through community donations, sponsorships and funds collected through the parking meters

$24,000

was raised to support our breakfast, lunch and snack programs.

Throughout the month of December, downtown parking in Trenton, Belleville and Picton was free - however, visitors to the downtown area were invited to continue to pay for their parking by dropping spare change in the parking meters.

In addition, virtual parking meters were placed throughout the communities of Bancroft and Stirling during the same time period, in an effort to raise funds for the student nutrition programs in those communities.

All proceeds from this campaign will be provided to schools in the participating communities to purchase food and supplies for their Food for Learning programs. All funds will remain in the communities where it was collected.

The Food for Learning Committee would like to thank Mayors & Councils, sponsors and the public for supporting this initiative and to help us reduce hunger among school aged children.

THANK YOU!
