A HEALTHY START FOR HEALTHY MINDS

Food for Learning provides food to over 10,000 local children each school year, in the form of a balanced breakfast, healthy snack or nutritious lunch. Schools within the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board; the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board; Conseil des Ecoles Publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario; and the Quinte Mohawk School are offering student nutrition programs daily.

Food for Learning is a source of administrative, financial
and organizational support for schools offering student nutrition programs. Food for Learning, the education sector and the community at large are working together to meet our goal of providing food to all children who are in need of a supplement to their daily nutritional intake, whether it is one day of the school year or every day.

Food for Learning will now accept applications for funding to support projects/events hosted by local schools.

The focus of this funding is to explore innovative projects/events/activities that promote the mission of Food for Learning and will provide nutrition to students in an effort to enhance learning.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

You could help impact the daily lives of children and youth by ensuring that they have the nourishment they need to learn and succeed.

Schools throughout Hastings and Prince

Edward counties need volunteers to help them with their breakfast programs.

Volunteers are needed to shop for groceries, prepare and serve food to children, assist with paper work and so much more!

Whether you have time just one morning a week or several, you can help!

For more information please contact Kellie Brace (613) 966-1170, ext. 2232.

VP Carswell Elementary School's apple day

VP CARSWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

On September 12, 2013, as part of our open house day, we provided each student in the school with a nice red shinny apple as a way to promote both healthy eating and the Food for Learning program. 158 students enjoyed apples!!! It was a hit and kids are still talking about it.

FEED THE METER 2014

Food for Learning's Feed the Meter campaign has begun in the communities of Belleville, Trenton and Picton.

During the month of December, parking is free downtown in each community, however donations to Food for Learning can be made through the parking meters until January 1, 2015.

The campaign was launched at a community breakfast held at The Greek Community Hall.  Thank you to the Greek Council for generously making the first donation to this year's campaign, as well as providing the venue and catering for the campaign launch.

Maribeth deSnoo and Adam Zegouras from The Greek Council

Adam Zegouras, The Greek Hall & Maribeth deSnoo, The Hastings & Prince Edward Learning Foundation

A very special thank you to our campaign sponsors, who provide support which ensures that 100% of the funds collected in a community are returned to their local schools.

The 2014 sponsors are:

Belleville: Adecco Employment Services; Wilkinson & Co.; Kellogg's; Whitley Insurance & Financial Services; Judi Rufo - Royal LePage; 237 Salon & Spa; Paulo's Restaurant; Dr. Sandra O'Connor - East Hill Health Centre

Trenton: HAI Precision Waterjet; Kellogg's; Tomasso's Restaurant; Adecco Employment Services; Wal Mart; Wilkinson & Co.

Picton: Prince Edward Federation of Agriculture; Prinzen Ford; Rotary Club of Picton

Thank you to our media sponsor Starboard Communications and Market High Advertising for our campaign print materials.

The campaign goal this year is to raise $30,000.  All funds raised in each community stay local and are shared with schools so they can purchase groceries for their breakfast snack and lunch programs.  Please make a contribution through a parking meter in your community or your donation can be forwarded to:
