CELEBRATE WORLD TEACHERS' DAY
Have you thanked a teacher today? October 5 is your opportunity - it’s World Teachers’ Day. The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is joining organizations around the world in celebration of the special contributions of our teachers to the lives of our children and the development of our society.
This year’s theme, “Teachers, a force for social change” reflects their unique role.
Audrey Carter, Chair of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board notes,“I believe that our teachers and educational workers deserve recognition for their continued dedication in providing an excellent education for our students. And I’m not alone - our teachers were recently awarded the lead role in developing the new English curriculum for all of Ontario and in the recent review of our school board, the Education Improvement Commission lauded staff for providing a smooth transition for our students during amalgamation.”
“Our teachers do an exceptional job,” adds Carter. “They work with our students every day to encourage academic and personal excellence, equality, democracy and morality. They really do represent a force for social change.”
The United Nations proclaimed the first World Teachers’ Day in
1994 and the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board would like
everyone to join them on October 5, 1999 in celebrating the contributions
of our teachers.
