Tweed schools win two technology honours
The twinned schools of Tweed-Hungerford and
S.H. Connor Public Schools have received two honours for their use of technology.
They have been named to the Honour Roll of SchoolNet’s Network of Innovative
Schools, and their website has received a $600 award through their Grassroots
Program.
Computer and Science Resource Teacher, Kent
Manning, is the webmaster of the Tweed schools website and supports the
use of computers and technology at the two schools. “The students at Tweed
Hungerford and S.H. Connor have had fun using technology to enhance their
learning,” said Manning.
The Tweed schools were selected for the Honour
Roll of the Network of Innovative Schools for their effective use of technology
in the school while involving staff, students, and the community. Initiatives
such as having Grade 8 students assisting Grade 1 students to complete
research projects using computers and technology and the inter-generational
project posted on their website, helped the schools earn this honour. The
SchoolNet Network of Innovative Schools (NIS) is a collaborative project,
from Industry Canada’s SchoolNet and the Canadian Association of School
Administrators.
The Tweed schools website, at www.hpedsb.on.ca/tweed/,
was recognized as one of the top school websites in Canada by the Grassroots
School Website Pilot Project Evaluation Committee. They offered congratulations
to the teachers, students and community members who collaborated in building
a website that showcases their school and reflects their community. The
evaluation read: “You and your students have definitely used the www to
showcase the good learning that happens at your schools.” This honour included
an award of $600.
