Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board reduces senior administrative position

    Following the announcement in November 1999 of the retirement of current Director of Education, Phil Ainsworth, effective August 31, 2000, the Board appointed Larry Langdon, the current Superintendent of Human Resources, to be the new Director effective September 1, 2000.
    During the amalgamation process in January 1, 1998, the Local Education Improvement Committee, who made recommendations to the new Board, recommended that the new Board reduce its number of supervisory officers by one, as the opportunity arose over the next three years.
    The Board, in response to the Education Improvement Committee recommendation, underwent a re-organization and decided to reduce its number of supervisory officers by one, reassigning roles and school supervision responsibilities to the remaining five superintendents (two business and three academic). Recognizing that the workload remains, the Board also approved the creation of a new position to assist the remaining superintendents. That position is Assistant to the Superintendents with primary responsibilities for secondary schools and programs.
    A competition was held internally and the successful candidate for Assistant to the Superintendents is Ernie Payette, currently principal of Moira Secondary School. The Board congratulates Ernie on his selection and believes that he will perform his new duties in an exemplary fashion.
    At its 2000 May 23 meeting, the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board  approved a number of appointments and transfers to the secondary leadership teams. As a result of Ernie Payette's appointment to Assistant to the Superintendents and the retirement of Ed Taylor, the following promotions and placements were approved effective September, 2000:

    These appointments and transfers have been made to allow for the minimum disruption of students. The Board is confident these new leadership teams will provide clear direction and stability as we move into the 21st century.
