NEW LEADERSHIP FOR BOARD

Things look a little different around the Board room table at the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. At its regular meeting, September 13, the Board swore in a new trustee and elected a new Chair and Vice-chair.

Audrey Carter, trustee for North Prince Edward, was named the new Chair of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. Carter had been Acting Chair since Ernie Parsons was elected as a member of Provincial Parliament this spring.

In accepting the position, Chair Carter spoke of the work ahead for the Board. "With everyone working together," she said, " we can provide an excellent education to our students. Our schools must remain safe, exciting places, challenging the minds of our students."

A former Chair of The Prince Edward County Board of Education, Carter has served as a trustee in public education since 1985 and had been Vice-chair with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board for almost two years.
With Carter moving to the position of Chair, the Board also needed to elect a Vice-chair. Carl Pitman, trustee for Centre Hastings, won over Belleville trustees Cliff Cotton and Mary Hall.

"I feel I am a relative new-comer," said Pitman, who has served since the formation of the District Board. "But I picked the best time to become involved."

Just prior to the election process, Reginald Barr was sworn in as trustee for Sidney/Frankford and welcomed to the Board. This ward had been without a trustee since Ernie Parsons won the local provincial election. Barr will serve as trustee for the balance of the term until December 2000.
