Following interviews before the Board of Trustees, Superintendent of Instruction and Human Resources, Larry Langdon, was selected as the new Director of Education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. The Board will confirm its selection of Mr. Langdon at its regular meeting of February 28, 2000, effective September 1, 2000.  The Board's current Director, Philip Ainsworth will retire on August 31, 2000 after 37 years in education.
"The Board of Trustees was very pleased with the quality of candidates who were interviewed," said Chair, Audrey Carter, "and we are looking forward to working with Mr. Langdon to continue providing our students excellence in education."
Superintendent Langdon has been in education for over thirty years. During that time he has worked within the publicly funded school system as a teacher, a consultant, a school level administrator in both elementary and secondary schools, a provincial federation president and as Chair of the Council of Ontario Directors of Education.
Mr. Langdon was the last Director of Education of The Prince Edward County Board of Education (Jan., 1990 to Dec., 1997). At the time of the formation of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board Mr. Langdon accepted a secondment with the Ministry of Education and Training where he spent the better part of two years as Director, Operations and Field Services Branch. Mr. Langdon returned to the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board as Superintendent of Instruction and Human Resources in September of 1999.
"My recent experiences with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board have confirmed that we are committed to our students," says Mr. Langdon. "They are the centre of everything we do. Our policies, our programs, our staff and our schools all have a purpose ... to help students participate, learn and achieve. I am very proud to have been selected as the Chief Executive and Education Officer for a Board District that is indeed lighting the way into the 21st century."
