Hillcrest wraps up the year with Risk Watch

Students at Hillcrest Public School in Belleville are highlighting safety as part of their annual Fun Fair. Hillcrest was one of three Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board schools to pilot the new Risk Watch program through local fire departments.
"Risk Watch is the first injury prevention program available that can be easily integrated into a school's core curriculum subject areas, such as health, language arts, and physical education," said Vice-principal Liz Vandersel. "It focuses on safety as, each year, unintentional injuries kill and disable more children than kidnapping, drugs, and disease combined."
Through the Risk Watch program, Hillcrest has developed a close link with the Belleville Fire Department's No. 1 Fire Station on Moira Street West. The Department is even helping Hillcrest celebrate it's Fun Fair on June 1 at 5pm. They are bringing the Fire Safety House for students and parents to tour and they will be fighting flare ups on the barbeque grills with profits supporting the Risk Watch program at Hillcrest. Risk Watch is also supported by the Greater Belleville Safe Community committee.
