Hastings and Prince Edward District
School Board
sets directions through to 2002
At its Board meeting of Monday, March 27, 2000,
the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board set out its guiding
path for the 2000 through 2002 academic years. The planning process involved
reviewing and reestablishing district-wide directions and resulted in the
adoption of four main priorities and six major initiatives.
"Setting the Hastings and Prince Edward District
School Board on a clearly marked path will allow all staff, teaching and
non-teaching, to work together and to focus their efforts for the benefit
of our students," said Audrey Carter, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
The priorities adopted by the Board are: Program
Review, Development, Implementation and Evaluation; Communications and
Community Relations; Human Resources Leadership; and Organizational/Fiscal
Management. They show the commitment of the Board to excellence in education
now and in the future and outline what the Board can expect from the Senior
Administrative Team.
-
The priority of Program Review, Development, Implementation
and Evaluation is our commitment to our students. It requires, as a goal,
the highest expectations for the academic excellence of students, the continued
implementation, development and assessment of exciting curriculum and program
initiatives, and the supports for staff to provide students the best education
possible.
-
By making Communications and Community Relations a priority,
the Board is addressing our commitment to our community, whether that be
fostering the effective flow of information or responding to feedback both
with our internal community of educators, staff and students and the broader
community outside of our school buildings.
-
Placing a priority on Human Resources Leadership is
our commitment to our staff. It provides for the highest expectations from
all staff; teaching, non-teaching and non-union; and includes an emphasis
on professional growth and supports appropriate ethics and moral leadership.
-
The priority of Organizational/Fiscal Management is
our commitment to our broader community. It allows the system to respond
to change while maintaining an effective organizational and fiscal management
structure.
In support of these new priorities, the Board expects
the senior administrative team to undertake six broad system initiatives
with a member of the team taking lead responsibility for each. These initiatives,
which will be pursued over the same time period of 2000 to 2002,
are Communications Planning, School Improvement Planning, Curriculum Planning,
Special Services Review, Facilities Audit, and Fiscal Planning and Management.
