Natural Bridges receives funding
The Ministry of Education's Secondary School Project
announced last week that the Hastings and Prince Edward District School
Boards Natural Bridges programs will receive third-year funding of $175,000.
Natural Bridges is an innovative program offered
at all eight secondary schools in the Hastings and Prince Edward District
School Board that provides skills-based training for students who wish
to move directly into the work force or specialized post secondary program
after graduation. The programs in Hastings and Prince Edward have been
so successful that they have received provincial and international recognition
as exemplary programs.
The program at each school is offered in partnership
with local business, industry, and the communities. Students acquire various
certificates and skills while studying ecology, resource management, forestry
and fishery practices, recreation services, and community leadership. Each
secondary school has its own particular focus within the program based
on the need for skilled workers in each community.
The funding announcement will mean that the Natural
Bridges programs of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board
will continue to offer students and the community an exciting program that
shows environmental technology at work.
