DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION TO RETIRE
On November 22, 1999 the Board received a letter
from Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board’s Director of Education,
Phil Ainsworth indicating his intention to retire August 31, 2000 after
37 years in education.
Mr. Ainsworth was selected as the Director of Education
by the former Hastings County Board of Education, beginning that role on
January 1, 1996. Following amalgamation of the Hastings and Prince Edward
County Boards of Education, Mr. Ainsworth became the Director of Education
for the new Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
“His leadership has been well received during this
important period of the new Board’s life,” says Board Chair, Audrey Carter.
During his career, Mr. Ainsworth has served as classroom
teacher, vice-principal, principal, curriculum co-ordinator, superintendent
and director of education. Mr. Ainsworth was born and raised in Prince
Edward County and began his teaching career there in September 1963 after
attending Toronto Teachers’ College. In 1967 he moved to Hastings County
to continue his career. The school board amalgamation in 1998 brought Mr.
Ainsworth full circle to include Prince Edward County in his realm of responsibility
as Director of Education.
“On behalf of the Board I would like to wish Mr.
Ainsworth all the best in his retirement years,” says Chair Carter. In
the near future the Board will begin a process to replace Mr. Ainsworth
next fall.
