STUDENTS CREATE LEGENDS OF THEIR OWN
It's the stuff of myths and legends. On October 26 and 28, approximately one hundred and twenty Grade 4 and 5 students from schools in the Hastings and Prince Edward District SChool Board will be spinning yarns and creating their own myths and legends.
As part of the offerings to gifted and enrichment students in Hastings and Prince Edward, Deirdre Gordon, a Gifted and Enrichment Resource Teacher with the Board has been organizing a series of fall workshop days. Myths and Legends is the first in the series.
The same program runs each day for different students. First, guest storyteller, Kathy Kompass treats the students to tales of her own. She introduces the elements of myth and legend and prepares them for a full day of activities.
Students will take part in workshop sessions where their imaginations will soar as they write their own myths and legends.
"The focus is on these narrative forms," said Deirdre Gordon, "because of their ties to the Ontario Curriculum expectations for these grades."
The workshops take place from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Education Centre,
156 Ann Street, Belleville.
