Celebration of Dance is more
than just dancing

Almost 6,000 students from Picton to Bancroft are strapping on their dancing shoes for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board's ninth annual Celebration of Dance. Wednesday, May 3 will see students movin' and groovin' in the biggest event of Education Week.
The Belleville Fairgrounds will be a sea of activity as 37 area elementary schools take to the field with over 5,000 participants. The dancing takes place from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Students will move to Latin rhythms, folk, a Scottish jig, the sounds of the Carribean, and more.
The event has grown tremendously over the years. It started out and continues to be a way of promoting quality daily physical activity to students and has become the largest celebration of Education Week. Students from each school often get into the spirit of celebration with custom t-shirts, pom-poms and flags to add colour to the celebrations.
On the same day, another 250 students will be dancing in the playground at Earl Prentice Public School in Marmora from 10:45 a.m. to 12noon, and over 300 students from eight Bancroft area schools will be gathering at North Hastings High School for their fourth annual Celebration of Dance. Their celebration will be in the gymnasium from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and will include eleven group dances as well as three demonstration dances.
