23 October 2008, Belleville, ON—Students at Queen Victoria School will soon create a colourful outdoor display to beautify their yard. The Stream of Dreams Program is a watershed education and community art project aimed at educating about the life and function of their watersheds while dazzling with the charm of community art.

"We are thrilled to be selected as the first school to create a stream of dreams," remarks Principal Anne Slager. "The connections between literacy, respect, character development art and environment are evident. Our students and volunteers are really looking forward to learning and doing!"

HPEDSB is partnering with Quinte Conservation (http://www.quinteconservation.ca) to offer the program at elementary schools. It consists of an interactive one-hour workshop on the life and function of watersheds followed by an art workshop in which students envision their dream for watersheds and paint it a ‘dream fish.' Dream fish are later installed with hundreds of others in a 'stream of dreams' mural on a highly-visible chain link fence in their community.

The Stream of Dreams program is sponsored and delivered by Quinte Conservation and supported by Rotary Club of Belleville and CORCAN.

Queen Victoria School, the oldest operating school in Belleville, located on the east side of the Moira River, serves approximately 300 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. The school is a Healthy Active School Community. At QVS, the “Together We Light the Way” Respect Program assists students in developing respect, appreciation and understanding of their uniqueness.
