19 June 2008, Belleville, ON—Congratulations to the Quinte Secondary School community for caring about others through their fundraising efforts.
On Tuesday, June 10, the school's Relay for Life Committee organized a Cuts for Cancer event at the school. Students and staff raised almost $4,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, $1,000 of which was raised on-the-spot to shave the head one of the male phys ed teachers! The same teacher, earlier in the assembly, offered to have one strip of leg hair waxed off when the crowd raised $40. He didn't realize that in addition to his bald head, he would have a completely bald leg once the staff from Foxy Hair Salon offered to donate $100 (in addition to their time!) to finish the job they had started!
The Cuts for Cancer event was held as a precursor to the school's third Relay For Life scheduled for September 2008 at the school.
The Quinte Secondary School community has been particularly touched by cancer, with two students succumbing to the illness during the past year, in addition to numerous family members and friends who have been affected. The committee is thankful that the school community continues to be so generous with support and generosity.
