| 6 May 2008, Belleville, ON—From May 4 to 7, a dozen students from Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board secondary schools will compete at the Ontario Technological Skills Championships (OTSC) in Waterloo. The OTSC is a Skills Canada/Ontario event, attracting over 1,500 competitors and 20,000 visitors from across the province. Over 50 contests in the skilled trades and technologies are offered at the competition to elementary, secondary and post-secondary level students, including apprentices. These contests allow participants to showcase their skills, talent and knowledge while providing them many networking opportunities with partners from industry, labour, government and education.
HPEDSB students will be competing in competitions featuring 3D animation, virtual robotics, photography, home building, carpentry, automotive service and IT – PC Network Support. In addition to the secondary school competitors, approximately 50 Stirling Senior School students participated in skilled trade and technology workshops this year. Support for participation in this Skills Canada event has been gratefully received from Student Success programming, the East Central Ontario Training Board and The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation.
