7th Annual Great Place Awards
The 7th Annual Great Place Awards will be presented at the June public Board meeting. These prestigious awards recognize outstanding contributions by students, staff, parents and guardians, and community partners. The Great Place Awards are the highest form of recognition within the district.
The 2008 Great Place Award recipients are:

• Joe Dicresce, Teacher, Centennial Secondary School
• Mike Godin, Teacher, Frankford Public School
• Julie Jarvis, Adult Education Coordinator, Quinte Secondary School
• Michelle Parker, Teacher, Hermon Public School
• Steve Payne, Systems Analyst, Education Centre
• Greg Pellow, Custodian, Maynooth Public School
• Debbie Stott, Educational Assistant, Centennial Secondary School
• Judith Wilson, Educational Assistant, Sir John A. Macdonald School
“It is gratifying to have such special people work for the public school board. Each one is known for modelling the character attributes that our board has chosen,” remarks trustee Thelma Goodfellow, who made a special trip to each site to congratulate award recipients.

The Great Place Awards Committee received 32 nominations representing students, employee groups, volunteers, parents and guardians, and community partners. The nomination criteria was aligned with the Board’s eight character attributes: caring, co-operation, honesty, humour, integrity, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness.

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board serves approximately 17,100 students each day at 46 elementary and 8 secondary schools. Supporting student achievement is the goal of approximately 1,800 teaching and support staff who, in addition to the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners, share their passion for teaching and learning. The district covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south and Quinte West to the west.
