December 2007, Belleville, ON—The next time you are in Deseronto Public School, take time to look at the new mural created by artist Maureen Walton with the assistance of many talented DPS students. This mural is a colourful reminder the school's 50th anniversary celebrations held earlier this fall.
The mural captures the past, present and a hoped for “green” future for our world. It depicts the history of the town of Deseronto with drawings of the old school, the Dominion Match factory, the Camp Mohawk Commonwealth Flight training, the lake going ships, and the steam and diesel trains that were a large part of the history of Deseronto. The mural has books that are a common link for the past, present and future sections of the mural. We hope that this mural will help our students make meaningful connections between themselves, what they encounter in texts and the world around them.
